Why should you receive a dental implant?

Missing teeth can cause some problems. You may experience issues with chewing, speaking, and your self-confidence. If left untreated, your teeth will begin to compensate for the open space. As a result, you may experience a bite misalignment and other cosmetic complications.

The most severe consequence of a missing tooth is bone deterioration. If you are missing many teeth, you jawbone does not receive physical stimulation. Your bone will begin to deteriorate during a process known as resorption. A dental implant is placed into the jawbone and provides the physical stimulation needed to keep the bone healthy.

Dental implants are a discrete, convenient, and permanent solution. Patients who receive dental implants have a renewed sense of confidence and an improved quality of life.

What to Expect at the Appointment

Before you receive a dental implant, we will perform an extensive dental examination. We use x-rays and 3D scans to gather information, and determine the state of your jawbone. Implants are only successful when the patient has the proper bone density and quantity. Patients with bone deterioration may need to undergo a bone graft procedure. During a bone graft, a small portion of bone is removed from a different area of your body. The bone is then surgically placed into the jaw to foster new growth. This process takes several months. Patients with severe bone density issues may not qualify for dental implants.

Other factors can also determine if you are a suitable candidate for dental implants. Patients with poor oral hygiene, habitual tobacco use and conditions that affect the immune system may not be eligible. In this case, we may suggest other treatment options or provide a plan to improve your oral health.

Come to your consultation prepared with questions and concerns. It is important to explain exactly what you want out of treatment to achieve the desired effect. Our doctors are happy to discuss treatment options and answer any questions you may have. This is crucial if you want to get the most out of your consultation visit.

After Your Consultation Visit

After your consultation visit, we will determine which form of implant treatment is right for you. We will work together with you to develop a treatment plan that best suits your needs.

Dental implants have been used for over 20 years. New technologies and techniques have given rise to several forms of treatments. Patients who need full arch replacements, fixed bridges, or just a replacement crown, now can choose dental implants.
