Single Tooth Implant

If you are missing a tooth, you may want to consider a dental implant. At Prosthodontic Dental Group, we believe dental implants are the ideal choice for patients who need a single tooth replacement. For most patients, the process is relatively simple, and the results are nearly unbeatable. Our team can provide you with a safe and successful implant experience. Implants can improve your life, and get your smile back on track.

Why choose single tooth implants?

A single tooth implant consists of three parts: a titanium screw, an abutment, and a dental crown. The titanium screw is surgically implanted into your jaw and serves as the root component of the crown. The abutment is an extension that fastens the crown to the screw, and provides additional support. Together, these parts deliver a restoration far superior to that of a dental bridge or removable prosthesis. An implant gives you the following advantages:
•  Better aesthetics. Implant crowns are made of porcelain. Porcelain can be shaded to match the color or your existing teeth. It can also be shaped to mimic the texture and appearance of a natural tooth.
•  Better function. The implant screw fuses to your bone during a process called osseointegration. This allows you to treat an implant as you would your normal tooth. Implants do not slip during speech and can handle an increased bite force. You can eat your favorite foods with confidence and comfort.
•  Better oral health. Unlike bridges, implants do not affect your surrounding teeth. More of your natural teeth are left intact, which is a huge benefit to your long-term oral health. Implants also help maintain your bone structure. Without teeth, your jawbone will begin to deteriorate over time. A dental implant provides the necessary stimulation your jaw needs to remain healthy.
•  Durability and convenience. Implants have an exceptionally high success rate. With the proper maintenance, an implant can last your entire life. Because they are permanent, they can be cleaned like your natural teeth. You will not need to remove them or use a specialized tool.

The Implant Process

Our specialists will determine if you are eligible for implants, and establish an individualized treatment plan. Once we have agreed upon a plan, we can schedule your first surgery.

During surgery, we will remove the problematic tooth (if necessary), and place the screw. We may take an impression and create a temporary crown. In certain cases, the abutment can be placed the same day, and you can avoid a second surgery.

During the next few weeks, you will need to eat soft foods to avoid discomfort and prevent damage. Osseointegration takes three to six months. Once you have properly healed, we can perform the second surgery and place the abutments. Another impression will be taken and used to fabricate the final crown. This make take a couple of weeks if we have to utilize a dental laboratory.

The crown will be installed and cemented using a special bonding agent. We will check the margins and make any last minute adjustments. A properly fit crown is crucial to the success of your implant.
