Sedation Dentistry

You can feel confident in our care because your comfort is a top priority.

Our California dental team practices sedation dentistry to ensure that you feel at ease throughout your procedure.

Whether you experience general dental anxiety or you’re having an extensive procedure that requires a longer time in the dentist’s chair, our sedation services can help. The Prosthodontic Dental Group team is trained in sedation dentistry and will make sure you are relaxed and comfortable throughout your procedure.

Calming Inhalant

If you find yourself feeling tense about a procedure with us, ask your team about our calming inhalant. This sedation option does not put you to sleep. Instead, it puts you in a calm but conscious state.

To administer the calming inhalant, we place a small hood over your nose and have you breathe through your nose during the procedure. Safe for kids and adults alike, you’ll start to feel the effects quickly, and with just a few deep breaths of oxygen after your procedure, you’ll feel back to normal almost instantly!

Oral Sedation

Patients who experience a higher level of dental anxiety may benefit from oral sedation. With this method, we provide you with an oral (pill) medication to take prior to your appointment. By the time you’re in the dental chair, you will be feeling sleepy but will still be able to communicate and follow instructions. Due to the drowsy effects produced by this medication, patients will need a friend or family member to drive them to and from their appointment.

IV Sedation

Our team has extensive training in IV (intravenous) sedation. This sedation option will put you into an amnesic state, so while you will remain conscious during your procedure, you will not retain memory of the appointment. We recommend IV sedation for patients who are undergoing extensive oral surgery, who can’t relax with other sedation options, and patients who may not be able to follow instructions and be safely treated otherwise.

Sedation FAQ

Sedation dentistry often leaves our patients with a few questions. We have a few of the ones we get most frequently, and you can always contact us with any additional questions you may have.

Absolutely! If you receive any form of sedation during your procedure, our team monitors you closely to make sure that you are safe and comfortable the whole time.

Many of our patients are candidates for sedation dentistry. Before providing sedation, we’ll go over your current health status and any concerns to determine the best path forward. We also monitor you closely to ensure your safety.

If you are receiving sedation, we require that you have someone to drive you home from your appointment. For the most part, the effects of sedation wear off quickly. But we recommend that you take the rest of the day to take it easy and allow yourself to get completely back to normal.

At Prosthodontic Dental Group, we provide sedation options to our patients because we understand that your well-being is important while receiving any dental care. Patients of all ages can benefit from sedation dentistry. Contact our office today to learn more and schedule your next dental appointment.
