Single-Tooth Implants

Missing even one tooth can impact your ability to eat your favorite foods and your confidence to talk, smile, and laugh. At Prosthodontic Dental Group, we can replace your missing tooth using a dental implant.

An implant is a three-piece appliance that replaces not only the root of the tooth but also the crown, giving you a strong and natural-looking restoration. The implant itself is a titanium screw that we place into the jawbone. The titanium fuses with the bone to create a secure base for the abutment, or connection piece, and the restoration. For a single-tooth implant, we use a dental crown as the restoration. Your crown will be custom-made and will fit comfortably among your natural teeth. Your smile will feel and function like normal once the implant process is complete.

Multi-Tooth Implants

Depending on our findings during the consultation, this step may be necessary before implant placement can be performed. If you have extensive tooth decay or periodontal disease, these issues will need to be addressed before your implants can be placed. This is because these conditions can weaken the jawbone, making it difficult for the implants to fuse properly. Other preliminary needs we may discuss include bone grafting and tooth extraction.

  • Bone grafting is a surgical procedure in which synthetic bone material is added to the jawbone to provide support for the implants. This is often necessary when the jawbone has been weakened by periodontal disease or tooth loss.
  • Tooth extraction may also be necessary if you have any teeth that are severely decayed or damaged. These teeth will need to be removed before the implants can be placed.

Full Arch Implants

Replacing a full arch of teeth? We can strategically place dental implants along your upper or lower jaw to allow for a full arch of false teeth. If you deal with slipping dentures, this may be a great option for you. The full arch appliance functions like a denture but attaches securely to the dental implants that we place, meaning you don’t have to deal with sticky denture glue or teeth that slide around when you eat. After placement, simply enjoy the benefits of a securely attached restoration with no special maintenance needed.

After dental implant placement, you may have some swelling and bleeding. We recommend over-the-counter pain medication to help with any post-surgical discomfort. On the day of your procedure, you’ll need to eat soft foods only, but you can return to a normal diet quickly after that.

Your implant(s) will take a few months to completely heal and fuse with the jaw bone. Once fused, we can place your restoration. With a restoration placed, you can get back to normal eating, drinking, and oral hygiene.

Caring for your implants is as easy as caring for your natural teeth. Once healed, you’re able to brush and floss as you normally would. It is important to have a solid oral hygiene routine at home and visit us on a regular basis, so your dental implant can last for decades.
